Inspired by the film L'Avventura from Michelangelo Antonioni. I wanted to capture the beauty, melancholy, and tension below the surface in the narrative. Creating a piece that takes cues from a film while creating something that's personal to me is a challenge. I started this painting in a very strange time of my life, took a long break on it, and finished it very recently in another strangely awkward time. A time where I doubt my place in my environment, fear that new storms brew around me, and frustration is caused by being out of step with connecting intimately with the people around me. However, as much as the themes of the film are reflected in my life and this piece, life still finds a way to be incredibly beautiful, and both the film and my painting both highlight that.
